 Who are we?

Sustainable Futures is a California non-profit organization dedicated to helping groups and businesses locally and further afield who are promoting sustainable development practices and community well-being.

 Our Vision

There is little agreement on how to achieve sustainable development or if this is even possible. There may be many approaches to sustainable development. However, communities are essential to human survival andquality-of-life. Groups are an integral part of a community's well-being and vitality.

Businesses are groups producing products or services for profit. Providing local employment and generating income address sustainable development principles. However, communities also need social services and infrastructure and employees need time to interact with and contribute to their families, neighbors and surroundings. Businesses support those needs in varying amounts.

We believe that by supporting and assisting businesses and groups that are committed to promoting sustainable development in our communities we shall all be better off. Ultimately there is only one planet and we must work together locally to take responsibility for achieving sustainable development globally.

 What do we do?

While support for operation of a business is crucial to the well-being of one's community, preservation of  a business' profit is often limited in any attempt to  attain a greater social and/or environmental contribution to the community. Sustainable Futures provides information and research on how to improve the quality-of-life of communities by providing practical approaches to building sustainable development in those communities - both locally and further afield.

Past local activities of our non-profit organization include providing information on resources available for sustainable development in Sonoma County and workshops on how to conduct the evaluation method which has been developed by Sustainable Futures to help improve progress towards sustainable development.

Local ongoing projects include establishing and coordinating two community gardens in Santa Rosa

Research activities include providing ideas and information that contribute to implementing sustainable development practices.

To the extent possible, coordination of these activities will be undertaken with existing groups who are committed to promoting sustainable development in their communities.
